Aboriginal Australian Creation Stories

A trip down under to our private Walkabout gallery will give children an opportunity to learn more about the lives and culture of Aboriginal Australians and the extreme climate and wildlife of their country. Listen to traditional Aboriginal stories and understand more about the symbols used in Aboriginal art. Leave the museum with a new appreciation for art, storytelling, and Indigenous cultures.

Session aim:

  • To explore Australian Aboriginal Creation Stories through oral storytelling and the symbology of bark paintings.

Session objectives:

  • Listen to Aboriginal creation stories from the teaching lead.
  • Produce a bark painting relating to one of the stories.
  • Some students will be able to retell the stories in their own words.

  • Geography: “understand geographical similarities and differences through studying the human and physical geography of a small area of the United Kingdom, and of a small area in a contrasting non-European country”.
