Enjoy a fun-filled family music day with Musinc at The Dorman Museum!
Get stuck in with percussive or crafting workshops, explore musical instruments and go on an exciting musical journey with our family music day! All activities are aimed at young people age 5+ and their families.
All the activities are free drop-in events throughout the day except the percussion workshops which you have to book online.
Percussion workshops – ticketed event
Find your rhythm with Apollo Arts’ drumming workshops! Try your hand at the djembe, a traditional African hand drum, to create exciting beats and rhythms. Or become the ultimate Boomwhacker Hero by playing popular tunes with colourful tubes that produce different musical pitches.

Tickets for the percussion workshop (booking required):
£2 per person, under 5s free (ticket cost for children over 5 and adults – children must be supervised, and everyone attending the workshop needs a ticket). Book your place on the percussion workshop here.
Craft a musical instrument – free, drop in
Make your very own musical instrument with recycled and everyday materials in our workshops with musician and teacher Christina Andropolis.
Meet us in the Dresser Gallery at any of the following times:

Try an instrument – free, drop in
Play a variety of musical instruments such as guitar, bass, ukelele, violin, cello, percussion, clarinet and keyboard. Our musicians will be on hand to introduce you to each instrument.
Drop in at any time in the lift corridor!
Silent disco – free, drop in
Grab a pair of headphones and get grooving at our silent disco whilst you do a spot of bird watching! Find us in the Nelson Gallery.
Quiet space
Want to take some time out? The Town in Time gallery provides a quiet space for colouring in or reading.
Discover Musinc’s programme
Come and find out about Musinc – the music engagement programme based at Middlesbrough Town Hall. We run activities and events in Middlesbrough for people of all ages, backgrounds and circumstances to make music, connect with others and explore their musical identity.
The Odeon cinema room will be screening videos of musical performances, interviews with participants and behind-the-scenes of our events.
